A sprained ankle is a very common injury. Approximately 25,000 people experience it each day, many which occur while working on the job.
Jones Fracture
A Jones fracture is a fracture of the fifth metatarsal of the foot. The fifth metatarsal is at the base of the small toe and the Jones fracture occurs in the midportion of the foot. Symptoms include pain over the middle/outside area of their foot, swelling, and difficulty walking.
Turf Toe
Also known as a metatarsalphalangeal joint sprain, it is a common injury to the joint and connective tissue between the foot and big toe caused by upward bending. Often, the injury occurs when someone or something falls on the back of the calf while that leg's knee and tips of the toes are touching the ground, causing the toe to hyperextend.
Achilles Tendonitis/Tendinosis
Achilles tendonitis is a painful inflammation of the Achilles tendon which is located in the back of the lower leg, attaches to the heel bone, and connects the leg muscles to the foot. Jobs that include activities with sudden stops and starts and repetitive jumping increases the risk for the condition. It often develops following sudden changes in activity level, exercising on poor surfaces, or wearing inappropriate footwear.
